Greenland shrimp fishery – From disaster to success and back again
In 1990 the Greenland shrimp fishery was on the very brink of economic disaster, due to overinvestments in trawlers. The introduction of the ITQ-system saved the economy, but also led to a concentration of the quotas on very few hands. Now the government is promoting a new fisheries act, aiming at a return to the “old system” where quotas are distributed on an annual basis.
